Short Description

Students will develop a critical understanding of what factors (individual, physical, environmental, clinical conditions) may influence sport and exercise performance. They will learn how these factors can be harness or mitigated to enhance and improve performance and explore real world examples of this in practice.

50% Editorial (1000 words) ILOs 1,3,4

50% Presentation (10-15 minutes including critical analysis of current literature) ILOs 1,2,3

Course Aims

This course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of what factors (individual, physical, environmental, clinical conditions) may influence sport and exercise performance. Students will critically evaluate the evidence based around these and how these factors can be harness or mitigated to enhance and improve performance. They will also explore and critique real world examples of this in practice.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate factors which influence performance (individual, physical, environmental) 

2. Critically evaluate specific clinical considerations which influence athletes performance 

3. Critically evaluate performance enhancing and mitigation strategies based on these factors 

4. Critically evaluate the evidence base on factors which influence performance and performance enhancing and mitigation strategies

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
