Short Description
Students will develop their skills in live performance with electronics, through preparing and realising a performance either solo or as a group.

2 hour seminar followed by fortnightly guidance meetings

Assessment
Students will develop and undertake a live performance of ca. 15 minutes (80%), with accompanying reflective commentary of ca. 1000 words (20%). This may be realised as a solo or as a group performance of longer duration; in the case of a group performance, each individual will provide their own reflective commentary, which must include a detailed analysis of their own contribution.
Course Aims
The overall aim of this course is to examine the implications of performing with audio technology. In particular the course aims to:
■ Enhance students' practical performance skills
■ Explore live performance with technology as an experimental practice
■ Engage with the implications of deploying live performance technology, examining issues of liveness, space and media
■ Confront the practical and aesthetic problems that live performance presents
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ devise and realise a performance oriented around the use of sound technology
■ identify and resolve practical and aesthetic issues in live performance
■ organize, manage and promote their live performance
■ demonstrate awareness of the implications of space, venue and approaches to spatial sound reproduction
■ apply critical reflection to their performance
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
