Short Description
The course will explore strategies for managing change and effectively negotiating to ensure change is successful. The course will also facilitate the student to evaluate and develop their own decision making and problem solving skills.

Assessment
The summative assessment will take the form of a 2,500 word essay/report (excluding references), which will constitute 90% of the grade awarded.
The remaining 10% will take the form of a poster / presentation on an aspect of the course work to be presented to the class eg a change management project in which they have been involved or taken a leadership role. This will allow the student to gain constructive feedback from colleagues and gain skills and confidence in giving constructive feedback to others.
Course Aims
The course will enable students to effectively manage change in the health and social care environment using skills in decision making and negotiation, taking cognisance of risk factors.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Discuss and critically evaluate approaches to change management within the health and social care setting.
2. Critically explore potential triggers that might lead to conflict and develop strategies for minimising and managing conflict.
3. Critically analyse their own decision making and problem solving skills.
4. Evaluate strategies and approaches to problem solving and decision making within the health and social care environment.
5. Critically discuss mechanisms for developing and managing teams.
6. Critically evaluate leadership, management and decision making approaches within a global health and social care context.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
