Short Description

This course will introduce students to Practice Leadership as a framework to support the implementation of PBS plans in practice within their workplace. There will be teaching about how best to plan for implementation, and the different factors to consider when planning PBS implementation. The course will also consider frequent barriers to implementation, and how to best overcome these.

MED5593 Developing & Implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans must be completed.

Assessment

Report on implementation (1,500 words, 50%, ILO 1&2).

Oral presentation (15 minutes, 50%, ILO 3&4).

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to teach students about the detailed planning required to implement PBS plans in practice. The students will be introduced to Practice Leadership as a key tool to support effective implementation of PBS, and they will also learn about other elements of good practice in implementing PBS for individuals with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviour.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically appraise the literature about Practice Leadership within PBS and apply this learning in practice.

2. Develop implementation plans for PBS, with particular emphasis on using a Practice Leadership approach.

3. Critically discuss Positive Behaviour Support and clearly define the approach.

4. Critically reflect on own practice in relation to the overall process of developing and implementing Positive Behaviour Support plans.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
