This course covers key areas of analytic philosophy, and includes a general introduction to Analytic Philosophy followed by a section on Philosophical Logic, and two additional sections on topics such as Ethics and Philosophy of Language.

3000 word essay on one of the other main Modules (60%)

The course aims to:

■ provide an introduction to a broad range of core topics in analytic philosophy, and a number of classic texts in the subject.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

■ understand core topics in analytic philosophy, and central theories, arguments and lines of contemporary thought therein.

■ assess critically and to compare profitably some principal contemporary arguments and positions concerning core topics, and apply this in a quiz and in two essays.

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
