Short Description

This course will give students an introduction to economic principles applied to One Health. We start with a review of important ideas in economics (for non-economists), then look at a series of case studies applying these ideas to specific areas of One Health/Planetary Health.

Assessment

The students will complete two reflections based on two of the case study themes presented on the course. The word count for each reflection will not exceed 1000 words. Each reflection aligns to ILOs 1-3.

Course Aims

This course aims to i) introduce students to important principles of economics which are relevant to One Health economics (ii) provide an understanding of how these tools can be applied to a range of real-world problems.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

1. Critically assess economic principles relevant to One Health.

2. Apply these insights to a wide range of current policy problems within the One Health domain and critically discuss these.

3. Evaluate economic insights on One Health problems to support policy makers and other stakeholders in decision making processes.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
