Short Description
This course considers the importance of the accounting and finance function within organisations in connection with decision making, control and performance management.
Timetable
This course is made up of 10 weeks of online lectures. It is anticipated that the student would engage in approximately 100 notional learning hours. Each session consists of a combination of recorded lectures, online learning activities, as well as case study and recommended reading discussions.

Course Aims
The course aims to give students a broad perspective on accounting and finance and its importance in organisations together with an introduction to some of the practical skills involved in the interpretation and usage of financial information and reports for decision-making, control and performance management.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Analyse and interpret corporate financial statements using a range of tools including ratio analysis and common size analysis.
2. Evaluate the concept of time value of money, apply investment appraisal techniques, and discuss the limitations of capital investment appraisal techniques.
3. Contrast financial accounting and management accounting and apply management accounting techniques in planning and controlling of the business.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
