Short Description
The course is aimed at enabling the student to explore leadership and management theory in the context of health and social care. The course also aims to enable the student to critically discuss the organisational structures relevant to care delivery.

Assessment
The summative assessment will take the form of a 2,500 word essay/report (excluding references).
Course Aims
The course will enable students to explore and apply leadership and management theory in the context of health and social care. The course also aims to enable the student to develop a whole systems perspective to understand the impact of leadership approaches and process on practice within the organisational structures relevant to care delivery.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Critically discuss theories of leadership and management and the core values and principles
underpinning good leadership at the macro, meso and micro level.
2. Critically evaluate the meaning of leadership in the context of quality improvement.
3. Think critically about health and social care provision.
4. Critically discuss managerialism and the potential tensions between leadership and management roles
5. Critically discuss the impact of organisational structure on service delivery.
6. Critically reflect on their own leadership and management skills in the context of their role.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
