The work placement allows students to integrate knowledge gained from degree courses with work-based learning. Through a project agreed by the course leader and placement provider, the student will gain valuable industry experience, and will consolidate and develop skills of critical analysis, reflection, and communication.

Targeted workshops and preparatory sessions will run during Semesters 1 and 2. The Placement itself will run for approximately 8 weeks from June to July. Writing up period of 4 weeks in August.

Work Placement Portfolio that must include:

■ A reflective report in the form of a public facing E-Portfolio reflecting on the impact of the Work Placement on the student' development of graduate attributes: 1500-2000 words (20%)

■ A placement report: 6500-7000 words (80%)

The principal aims of this work placement are to:

1. develop and complete a negotiated project or task(s) relevant to both the needs of the external placement provider and the degree requirements

2. apply the skills and knowledge gained during the degree in a work-based environment

3. reflect on the placement providers' organisational structure and the placement experience

4. communicate valuable educational and practical elements of this experience.

On completion of the work placement students will be able to:

1. negotiate and undertake work based tasks and industry related learning goals, as demonstrated in their final project.

2. relate elements of the work experience to academic themes and issues relevant to their degree programme, and apply the skills developed within the academic curriculum in a work-based environment.

3. critically analyse and reflect on their professional practice and work-based experience 

4. present a specified industry-related project in an appropriate format.  

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components of the course's summative assessment.
