Short Description

The course provides the postgraduate student with academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to develop their skills in diagnosing endodontic problems and to provide appropriate treatment to endodontic patients. During the course, students will learn how to diagnose endodontic failure and how this can be treated by non-surgical or surgical means.

Timetable

Teaching will consist of endodontic pre-clinical/ clinical treatment sessions, research/ audit sessions, didactic teaching seminars, critical reading seminars and endodontic diagnostic clinic sessions.

Course Aims

To provide the postgraduate with academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to:

■ establish endodontic treatment needs within populations

■ assess the needs, treatment options, and organise appropriate immediate and subsequent treatment for patients with failed endodontic treatment

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, students should be able to critically analyse and:

 

■ identify appropriate holistic patient care for patients with endodontic problems

 

■ create a rationale for good dental teamwork in the provision of care for patients with endodontic diseases

 

■ identify the biological and clinical challenges of endodontic retreatment

 

■ demonstrate an understanding of the principles of periradicular surgery

 

■ demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the biological and clinical challenges of endodontic retreatment

 

■ assess innovations in endodontic practice and appraise guidance provided by manufacturers and retailers

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
