The course will present the different approaches to the problem of economic development that exist in academic disciplines such as sociology, anthropology or psychology; and relate these to the approach and practice from economics.

The course aims to explore the different perspectives towards economic development that exist across a range of academic disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, psychology; and describe how these relate to the perspective from economics.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the concept of development from a multidisciplinary approach.

2. Develop a critical understanding of human behaviour and society in the context of development.

3. Critically evaluate economic, psychological and social perspectives on development.

4. Develop the capacity to design effective strategies that help to improve the work of development professionals.

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
