Short Description

This aim of this course is to provide participants with the opportunity to demonstrate their integrated learning through a group consultancy project. Using techniques learned throughout the year the project allows students to directly engage and manage clients, demonstrating their team working, problem-solving and negotiation skills. Students will bring theory into practice, taking take ethical considerations into account when making decisions and proposing recommendations in response to a real-world business challenge.

Timetable

■ 14 hours of interactive workshops delivered throughout semesters 1&2

■ 2 x 2-hour interactive classes delivered during the week before the consultancy projects start

■ 70 hours student led group work over 2 weeks

■ Blended supervision by the teaching team during the 2-week consultancy process

Assessment

1. Presentation

35% = Group project PowerPoint presentation of solution to client. The presentation will be marked as a group performance by the teaching team. Presentation will be a maximum of 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for questions at the end. Peer evaluation may be used to adjust the marks of the group work by +/- 10% of the mark.

 

2. Group Report

65% = Group 2,500-word executive summary report that presents and explains the key decisions and recommendations in response to the client brief.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the opportunity to demonstrate their integrated learning through a consultancy assignment. Specifically, it will equip students to understand the importance of how they can analyse and solve business issues in a structured way; apply the appropriate use of academic frameworks and concepts in business problem-solving; and develop the communication skills needed to structure client problems and report approaches and solutions. 

 

Additionally, this course aims to develop presentation and organisational skills whilst challenging ability to work constructively in a team under pressure - key employability skills.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Evaluate management theories, recognising the strengths and weaknesses and implications for practise.

2. Critically appraise and identify client and business needs.

3. Collaborate with colleagues to design a solution using academic theory, practices and processes in response to an industry challenge under uncertainty.

4. Work in a team to professionally develop, construct and present clear evidence-based recommendations and create a guide for implementation to an industry client.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
