Course Aims

The aim of the course is to equip students with an understanding of, and practical skills in a broad range of molecular techniques and to equip them with the tools for interpretation of data generated as well as an understanding and the ability to analyse current literature in molecular based research.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically appraise research techniques commonly used in biomedical sciences.

2. Critically explain the theory of the molecular biology techniques used in the lab classes.

3. Discuss and apply best laboratory practice and biological containment.

4. Perform data analysis including calculations and statistical analysis relevant to molecular biology research techniques covered in the course.

5. Critically evaluate relevant bioinformatics.

6. Produce effective, evidence-based written scientific communication.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
