Short Description

This course aims to introduce students to the range of techniques available for genome editing.

The course will include online practical activities, in which students will follow an experiment to transfect cells with a CRISPR system and select and characterise edited cells.

The course will also review recent research developments in genome editing and related technologies.

Course Aims

This course aims to introduce students to a range of different genome editing technologies. It will develop their knowledge of practical techniques so they can plan experiments, interpret data and troubleshoot problems. It will also develop their ability to understand and critically evaluate the details of different technologies and put them into the context of the scientific literature.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate their knowledge of relevant molecular and cellular biology techniques to plan a genome editing experiment

2. Critically evaluate different genome editing strategies

3. Critically discuss the literature relating to genome editing

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
