Short Description
This course will facilitate students to gain an in depth knowledge and understanding of how and why feeds are processed for monogastrics.
Timetable
5 week course. Approximately 1h lectures weekly, plus tutorial sessions and workbased learning.

Written assignment (1500 words approx).
Course Aims
The course will enable students to identify the main constraints to the safe and effective use of feeds for monogastrics and describe physical, chemical and enzymatic processing methods to improve feeding values, as well as product safety and quality.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Describe and critically appraise the reasons for processing monogastric feedstuffs;
■ Explain and evaluate the different methods used in monogastric nutrition;
■ Explain and evaluate the different methods used to improve the digestibility or other feeding values of monogastric feeds;
■ Critically evaluate the effect of feed processing methods designed to improve the nutritive value, quality and/or safety for monogastrics.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
