Short Description

This course provides students an opportunity to demonstrate their competence as practitioners in a community learning development setting. Students will plan, implement and evaluate practice and analyse it in the light of community learning & development theory.

Assessment

To fulfil the requirements for professional accreditation, students must successfully complete a placement that comprises of 480 hours (Comprised of 370 contact hours plus 110 hours of reflective practice). Each student is supported by a Fieldwork Supervisor, who will determine a pass or fail grade. The pass or fail relates to the students' ability to demonstrate that they have achieved the CLD Standards Council for Scotland's professional competences. 

 

In addition, all students must achieve a D3 grade, or above for each of the following summative assessments:

 

Assignment 1: Community Map Presentation - 20%

Assignment 2: Observation of Practice - 20%

Assignment 3: Placement Essay  - 60%

 

If a student does not achieve a D3 for one or more of the summative assessments, they will usually be given the opportunity to re-submit.

To enable students to

a) demonstrate competence in community learning & development practice against the CLD Standards

b) interrogate their practice in the light of community learning & development theory

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

a) Implement a programme of CLD activities in line with the CLD competences

b) Analyse CLD practice in the light of a range of CLD theories

c) Critically reflect on their own practice

d) Identify unmet learning needs
