Public transport

Lisbon’s transport network is made up of buses, trams and the Metro.

The Metro is usually the fastest way to get around. It runs every day from 6.30am to 1am and has four lines that connect the most important areas of the city.

You can find the Metro map and travel information on the Metro Lisboa website.

Buses, trams and even funiculars are run by the local transport company Carris. Getting home late after enjoying Lisbon’s nightlife is no problem thanks to the many night buses.

You can find bus timetables and route information on the Carris website.

Eléctrico 28

Make sure you don’t miss out on a trip on the old tram number 28 (Eléctrico 28). This is an original 100-year-old streetcar that goes through some of the most historical areas of the city. All tourist information offices have special maps of this route. We recommend passing through Graça and Alfama, all the way to the Basilica and Jardim da Estrela.
