Please note: there are no Erasmus Mundus Scholarships available for entry to the Programme in 2025.
The core aim of the Central and Eastern European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies International Masters Erasmus Mundus programme (CEERES) is to provide students with thorough knowledge and understanding of historical and contemporary developments in the society, politics, and culture of countries and regions across our area of interest.
The CEERES programme seeks to move forward from the post-socialist label often applied to the CEERE region, and from the analytical focus on the revolutionary changes brought about by the collapse of the Soviet bloc, the post-1991 transition, and the lasting imprint left by communist rule. Instead, whilst acknowledging the impact of the socialist experience, we encourage students to consider wider trends as they critically engage with the CEERE area, and not to view the area merely through one defining feature. We investigate the broader context of longer-term historical trends, shifting geopolitical configurations, and permeable borders. To this end, the programme offers a wide range of options to make sense of the ever-evolving nature of connections and entanglements as developed within and beyond the area. It also allows for developing expertise on a particular region, including regional language training and specific study pathway themes.
Our curriculum and mobility pathways aim to equip students with a toolbox of fresh and innovative theoretical and analytical approaches to study CEERE countries and regions, by integrating the expertise of our partner universities and deploying multidisciplinary methodological approaches and techniques. We also assist students in carrying out independent, specialised research projects and in developing employable and transferable skills to help them plan for their future careers.
