Originally from Cyprus, I completed my Biological Sciences undergraduate and research master’s degrees at the University of Edinburgh. Following my studies, I spent a year working as a research assistant in the Sanz lab at the University of Glasgow, where my PhD project is currently based. When I’m not working on my project, I like to spend my free time gaming, playing guitar, riding my bike and exercising.
At the age of 15, I decided to devote my career to researching the mechanisms that govern organismal lifespan. My PhD project delves into the intricate relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and aging, using fruit flies as a model organism. Through my research, I aim to uncover specific mitochondrial pathways that influence the aging process. By identifying these pathways, I hope to contribute to the development of novel interventions that can extend human lifespan and potentially treat mitochondrial diseases.
