Miriam Garner
- Queen's University Belfast
Hi, my name is Miriam, and I am a PhD student based between the Moredun Research Institute in Edinburgh and Queen's University Belfast. I completed my BSc (Hons) in Infectious Diseases in 2022, followed by my MScR in Biomedical Science in 2023, both at the University of Edinburgh. Throughout both of my degrees, I’ve developed a special interest in veterinary-based biosciences, specifically livestock, which led me to undertake my MScR research projects in the fields of avian immunology and bovine mastitis research.
My PhD project aims to develop a biologically relevant liver model of cattle and sheep using 3D, stem-cell derived liver organoids. Once these models have been established, I aim to apply them towards to the study of drug metabolism and host: parasite interactions, specifically with the parasitic trematode Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke). Outside of the lab, I enjoy baking, reading, and hiking.
