Hey, my name is Danni, and I am a PhD student based at Glasgow University. My research focuses on rabies control in East Africa, particularly within domestic dog populations, which are the primary carriers of this deadly disease. I am working on developing a novel method to measure spatial dog vaccination coverage at a high resolution, which will help identify and fill gaps in coverage more effectively. This is crucial in the fight against rabies, a devastating zoonotic disease that claims approximately 59,000 lives each year. My passion for this field stems from the fascinating intersection of ecology, epidemiology, and public health that rabies represents. By advancing our understanding of vaccination strategies, I hope to contribute to more effective rabies control efforts and ultimately save lives in communities most at risk.
I am really thankful to NorthWest Bio, not just for giving me the opportunity to have this PhD, but for all the other things they have helped organise for us. They have been great at organising different courses and social events for us (which provide a welcome relief from debugging R code). I am really lucky to be part of a cohort with such a diverse group of people and research, and this has definitely added to my experience.
