During PIPS Placement
To ensure a successful and supportive PIPS experience, scheduled check-ins with the PIPS administrator are essential. Here’s a brief outline of how to approach these check-ins:
Scheduling Check-Ins:
- Coordinate with the PIPS administrator to establish regular check-in times.
- Determine the frequency (e.g., weekly, bi-weekly) based on your placement duration and needs.
Format:
- Check-ins can be conducted via telephone or online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
Agenda for Check-Ins:
- Progress Updates: Discuss the progress of the placement and any achievements or challenges faced.
- Support Needs: Identify any areas where additional support or guidance may be needed.
- Feedback: Provide and receive feedback regarding the internship experience and expectations.
- Documentation: Review any necessary documentation or reports required for the placement.
Follow-Up:
- Summarize key points and action items from each check-in.
- Confirm the date and time for the next check-in.
Documentation:
- Keep a record of each check-in, including discussion points and any decisions made.

Collecting Photographs During Your PIPS Placement
While on your PIPS placement, it’s important to capture high-quality photographs that showcase your experience. Here are some guidelines to help you collect effective “action pictures”:
Types of Photos to Take:
- Action Shots: Capture images of yourself working with your host supervisor and team members. Focus on candid moments that illustrate the work being done.
- Team Interactions: Include photos of discussions, meetings, or collaborative work to highlight teamwork.
Quality Matters:
- Aim for high-resolution images, as these may be used for the DTP website or other promotional materials.
- You can use your mobile phone camera, but consider asking if your host organisation has a marketing department or a professional photographer available to help.
Permission is Key:
- Always seek consent from anyone who will be included in the photographs. This includes not only direct participants but also individuals who may appear in the background.
- Inform people about the purpose of the photographs and give them the opportunity to opt out.
- Disclaimer/consent form is available here
Documentation:
- Keep a record of who has consented to be photographed and ensure you respect their wishes.
Capturing the Experience:
- Aim to photograph a variety of activities to showcase different aspects of your placement.
- Consider taking pictures of the environment and tools used, which can add context to your experience.
Collecting these photographs will not only enhance your PIPS report but also contribute to the DTP's visibility and outreach efforts.
