Kieran Sweeney
Kieran Sweeney is an GP in north east Edinburgh and clinical academic at the University of Edinburgh. His PhD is looking at interventions for people with who have common mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, alongside long-term physical conditions.
Prior to this, he lead an RCGP-funded study to develop a new outcome measure for quality of life in people with multiple long term conditions, and was part of a large programme of research evaluating the new GP contract in Scotland with a focus on health inequalities. His other interests include continuity of care and narrative practice in primary care. He was awarded the RCGP Allen & Margaret Wilson Award for GP research in 2023.
Before becoming a GP he has worked in emergency medicine, humanitarian medicine and medical education. He studied in Manchester and Kings College London, intercalating in Philosophy. He was two young daughters and enjoys running and swimming.
