Faith Campbell
I will be researching multimorbidity and oral health with an experienced multidisciplinary team. My academic work will be based within Dundee Dental Hospital and Research School.
I am a Specialty Registrar in Paediatric Dentistry at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School and the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. Here I provide acute and long-term oral health care for children, including those with multimorbidity.
I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2016 with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery and the Dental Practitioners Prize in Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. Since then, I have gained broad clinical and academic experience through various roles as a General Dental Practitioner, a hospital based Dental Core Trainee and a Clinical Teacher in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Sheffield. I was awarded a research grant from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) in 2020 to undertake education-based research with undergraduate dental students at the University of Sheffield.
My current research interests include multimorbidity, oral health and dental education. I am currently the Scotland Lead for the Child Oral Health National Research Collaborative (CONNECT) which is a UK wide trainee research collaborative for Paediatric Dentistry.
My research project will use mixed methods and seeks to explore; co-occurring physical and mental health conditions that are associated with poorer oral health outcomes for children, how maternal multimorbidity relates to poorer child oral health outcomes and the impacts of socioeconomic inequalities on these pathways. I will be exploring this using existing data sets and qualitative data.
Through the multimorbidity for health professionals programme, I plan to develop skills as a research leader in oral health. Ultimately, I aim to undertake post-doctoral training and become a Clinical Academic in Paediatric Dentistry.
