Summary
Despite improvements in treatment, acute stroke affects a large number of people and causes death or permanent disability in a significant proportion. There is notable variation in outcomes from treatment that is incompletely understood. Relevant factors include variations in individual susceptibility to brain injury, differing severity of the stroke, different anatomical distribution of affected tissues, and influence of coexisting medical conditions. The project will seek to provide insights into the basis for variation in treatment response by collating and analysing a large dataset of detailed clinical and imaging features from an acute hospitalized stroke population, with the goal of identifying groups for whom different treatment approaches may be developed.
