Precision Medicine - ICASE
Our MRC-funded Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) in Precision Medicine is a transformational approach that integrates evidence from advanced datasets on myriad clinical samples with individual genomics, e-record, imaging and other data-rich -omic parameters to accelerate discovery and research impact. Our PhD with Integrated Study in Precision Medicine is funded via a Doctoral Training Programme Grant from the Medical Research Council – the programme is run jointly by the Unversities of Edinburgh and Glasgow and with the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm as an associated institution.
We are inviting iCASE project applications for our PhD with Integrated Study in Precision Medicine. The programme has a tiered access model allowing students to undertake a 3.5 year PhD, for students who already have a Masters degree, or a 4 year PhD for those entering with a BSc Honours. The mandatory taught training element is a vital aspect of the programme and is designed to ensure students gain skills aligned with the MRC skills priorities.
Students on the 3.5 year programme are required to take 30 credits of study in Year 1, and those on the 4 year programme 120 credits across the first 3 years, with 40 credits completed in Year 1. Mandatory taught elements will include Statistics, Research Ethics, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Health Economics, Data Management and Bioinformatics.
The iCASE scheme will provide an experience of collaborative research with a non-academic partner, and will involve at least a three-month placement over the lifetime of the PhD study.
