Research title: Sediment transport of made ground along Scottish sites
Research Summary
My research focuses on an overlooked kind of beach -- anthropogenic mixed beaches. Specifically, I examine their grain size characteristics, sediment compositions and morphological features. I selected six beaches along the Firth of Forth in Scotland and used a multi-method approach to obtain fundamental parameters, aiming to classify these beaches within existing beach classification systems. Annual UAV surveys were conducted to track temporal changes in surface sediments and a deep learning model -- GRAINet was used for grain size analysis. In the future, I plan to map the distribution of anthropogenic geomaterials comprised partly of artificial waste across Europe based on user-uploaded images from Google Maps and explore the relationship between their distribution and socio-economic parameters.
