Research title: Urban greening, socio-spatial inequalities, and gentrification: a case study of Shanghai, China

Research Summary

Research Interest

My research lies at the intersection of human geography, urban anthropology, and development studies, with particular interests in gentrification, urban sustainability politics, and social injustice issues associated with space and environment.

Geographically, I am interested in Global South and East urban development experiences, especially about peri-urban transformations, which juxtaposed with my intention to contribute to the postcolonial turn of critical urban theories.

Methodologically, I am primarily a qualitative social researcher, undergoing a transformative journey from a prior focus on quantitative research in the natural sciences.

Current Research

My PhD project explores how green urbanisation affects urban socio-spatial inequalities and its implications for a process of gentrification using a case study of Shanghai.
