Research Summary

Mark Elliot is a Adam Smith Business School Doctoral Researcher. His research focuses on climate change and sustainability reporting and the impact on investments by public sector organisations.

Prior to pursuing a doctorate, Mark spent several years working at a “Big 4” accounting firm, auditing clients in the banking and capital markets, insurance, and wealth and asset management sectors. He's worked across multiple jurisdictions, including the UK, Channel Islands, and Luxembourg, accruing a plethora of experience with IFRS, FRS 102, and LuxGAAP financial reporting standards.

In addition to time in professional practice, Mark worked within a “Mayor Combined Authority”, investing in projects that contributed economic benefits to the city region. His investment portfolio included business resilience programmes, local authority-owned assets, digital and innovation, transport, and social capital investment funds.

Outside of research, Mark is passionate about widening participation initiatives that help promote a career in accounting. He’s eager to work collaboratively within the university to strategise on how the university can continue advancing its diversity, equality, and inclusion (DE&I) agenda.

Mark earned his Master of Science (MSc) in Accounting from the University of Liverpool (2018) and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Management at Henley Business School, University of Reading (2017).
