Research title: Interactivity and interactive cognitivism

Research Summary

I mainly focus on overlapping fields of aesthetics and philosophy of technology. My PhD thesis mainly focuses on solving issues around whether the distinctive interactivity of video games can bridge the gap between virtual perceptions and cognitive effects of virtual reality?

In contrast to traditional artworks, video games are distinguished by their attractive feature, interactivity, which seems to be somehow evolved into an ontological quality of not only video games, but also digital arts. The proposed research concentrates on explaining what is distinctive about interactivity of video games and attempts to argue for interactive cognitivism, which holds that interactive perceptions can be sources for a new kind of cognitive structure and thus can shed light on issues around virtual values. The expected benefits include not only helping us better understand the ontology of interactions in digital arts, but also laying new topics for philosophical foundation of virtual knowledge.
