Research title: Developing new beating-heart microscopy technologies for biomedical application
Imaging the beating heart is made difficult due to motion artefacts introduced during the cardiac cycle. One approach to solve this is optical gating which triggers a camera at a specific phase of the heart. This approach performs well in healthy hearts but struggles in diseased an arrythmic hearts. My research is focused on improving the current approach using an adaptive Kalman filter. The ultimate aim is to image diseased hearts in their early developmental stages to provide greater insight into heart development, repair and function.
