Research title: Cross-Cultural Differences in Stress, Stigma and Religion

Research Summary

My research explores how four different cultural groups experience and express stress within the doctoral researcher community. I am investigating the prevalence of psychologised (mental) or somatic (bodily) stress between these specific groups. Whilst looking at factors of self-construal, religiosity/spirituality, and mental health stigma and what impact they may have upon stress expression.

I am doing this as part of a mixed-methods thesis which incorporates a creative research methodology of photo-elicitation techniques.

My research aims to gain further insights into how four groups of doctoral researchers experience their own stress responses and what coping strategies they utilise during stressful periods. The results of this research are central to understanding how doctoral researchers can be better supported with their mental health and advise support services, institutions and healthcare organisations to support them more effectively during stressful periods.
