Research title: Exploring sociomaterial practices and core (f)actors contributing to early career academic teacher development: an actor-network theory perspective
Research Summary
My PhD study explores how UK early-career academics (ECAs), namely graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) and recently employed lecturers, navigate their early teaching experiences and develop their academic teaching practice.
I employ a poststructuralist and posthuman paradigm and a relational flat ontology approach, particularly an Actor-Network Theory (ANT) lens and Visual Network Analysis (VNA), to better understand the sociomaterial practices of developing teaching practice and the role of the interplay of humans and non-humans in shaping "becoming a university teacher".
Thus, I explore two main research questions:
- RQ1. How is the teaching development of early career academics enacted, experienced, and practised in the UK higher education context?
- RQ2. What sociomaterial practices contribute to the teaching development of UK-based early career academics?
- RQ1.1. What are the involved (f)actors?
- RQ1.2. How do they relate to each other?
- RQ1.3. What effects do they produce?
