Nine academics from the University of Glasgow have been enrolled as Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).

The latest cohort to join the esteemed society comprises:

  • Professor Anne Anderson OBE, Vice Principal & Head of the College of Social Sciences,
  • Professor Andrew Biankin, Regius Professor of Surgery and Director of the Wolfson-Wohl Cancer Research Centre,
  • Professor Samual Cohn, Professor of Medieval History, College of Arts,
  • Professor Herve Moulin, Professor of Economics, College of Social Sciences,
  • Professor Charles Nolan, Bonar-MacFie Chair of Political Economy, College of Social Sciences,
  • Professor Alison Phipps OBE, Professor of Languages and Intercultural Studies and co-convener of GRAMNET, College of Social Sciences
  • Professor Elizabeth Tanner, Professor of Biomedical Materials, College of Science & Engineering,
  • Professor Sally Wyke, Deputy Director of the Institute of Health & Wellbeing, College of Social Sciences
  • Professor Klaas Wynne, Professor of Chemical Physics, College of Science & Engineering.

The Glasgow academics join 47 other distinguished individuals elected to become Fellows of the RSE. Spanning the arts, business, and science and technology sectors, they join the RSE in its work to place the advancement of learning and useful knowledge at the centre of public life in Scotland.

President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, said: “I am delighted to welcome such a wide range of outstanding individuals to the Fellowship. “Each of our new Fellows is elected on the distinguished merit of their work. In joining the RSE, they strengthen our capacity to support excellence across all areas of academic and public life, both in Scotland and further afield.”

Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal & Vice Chancellor of the University of Glasgow said: “It is always heartening to see colleagues at the University recognised for their contribution to their fields. New Fellows are elected each year through a rigorous five-stage nomination process. The breadth of the Fellowship, which numbers over 1600 individuals from Scotland, the UK and abroad, enables the RSE to provide a wide range of leadership and expertise.
