James Watt Chair appointed

Professor Colin McInnes MBE, the Scottish engineer known for his work on advanced space technology, has been appointed James Watt Chair, Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Glasgow.
Professor Colin McInnes MBE, the Scottish engineer known for his work on advanced space technology, has been appointed James Watt Chair, Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Glasgow.
Professor McInnes is currently Director of the Advanced Space Concepts Laboratory at the University of Strathclyde, an award-winning, 30-strong space technology research centre, where his work on novel families of spacecraft orbits is funded by an Advanced Investigator Grant from the European Research Council.
He said: "The James Watt Chair is approaching its centenary, representing a milestone for Engineering Science at the University of Glasgow. As the centenary approaches, my vision is that the James Watt Chair looks forward to the forthcoming century, by investigating bold new ideas for Engineering Science, and considering the future societal impacts of Engineering Science to reflect James Watt's progressive legacy"
Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal of the University of Glasgow, said: "I am delighted that Professor McInnes is returning to the University of Glasgow. He has led a highly distinguished career and we are honoured that he will return to us as James Watt Chair. I look forward with great anticipation to the future development of Engineering Science at Glasgow under his leadership".
Colin is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Engineering and was made MBE in June 2014 for services to Space Research, Science and Technology.
