A social media competition on the University's social media networks has produced a sparkling gallery of photos. The winners have just been announced.
2014 is such an exciting year for Glasgow with the Commonwealth Games and Homecoming at the top of the city’s event calendar. It seemed the perfect opportunity to celebrate the city through photography.
We asked our students and followers to send us photos that showed off the best of Glasgow. The photos could be more well-known spots around the city, or hidden gems. People submitted their photos via our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles and we received hundreds of fantastic entries. The calibre was so high, it was fitting to showcase some highly commended photos as well as the winners.
Here are some photos that also captured the judges attention:

But it was our three winners that really stood out and showed off what makes our fabulous city so special.
In third place was Zoe Avison (from Yorkshire and studying Environmental Chemistry). The judges loved the movement in this photograph, as well as the sporting passion that will hit fever pitch at the Commonwealth Games later this year. It also showcases the wonderful Glasgow architecture.
In second place was William Newman (a fourth year Physics and Astro Physics student from near Aberdeen) for this gorgeous panoramic shot. The judges loved this photo which was taken from the University library as it shows off so many iconic buildings, including the University's Main Building, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, BBC building, the Hydro, Science Centre, the Crane and more...We also loved the beautiful sky.
And our winner was second year medical student Louise Polson, from Shetland, for this fabulous photo of the Hydro and Clyde Auditorium (colloquially know as "The Armadillo") on the banks of the River Clyde. These new landmarks are symbols of Glasgow's unique cultural landscape. The judges also loved the colours (symbolising the vibrancy of our dear city), as well as the gorgeous reflection in the water. Well done Louise, our 'Glaswow' Queen of 2014!
