The 2013 New Year Honours List includes recognition for two individuals associated with the University of Glasgow.
The 2013 New Year Honours List includes recognition for two individuals associated with the University of Glasgow.
Professor John Butt, the University’s Gardiner Chair of Music and musical director of the Dunedin Consort baroque ensemble, received an OBE ‘for services to Music in Scotland’.
Olympic gold medallist Katherine Grainger, who received a Masters in Medical Law and Medical Ethics at Glasgow in 2001 and is the University’s Young Alumnus of the Year 2013, received a CBE ‘for services to Rowing’.
Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, said: “We’re delighted and proud that John and Katherine have been recognised in the New Year Honours List.
“They have both made tremendous contributions to their fields. John is a tireless champion of the teaching, composition and performance of music, and Katherine’s achievement of medals in three Olympics, capped with a gold this year, has thrilled the nation.
“They are both inspirational figures and their awards are very well-deserved.”
