Munch exhibition a screaming success

The ‘Edvard Munch: Prints’ exhibition has attracted more than double the number of visitors to the Hunterian Art Gallery compared to the same time last year.
The ‘Edvard Munch: Prints’ exhibition at the Hunterian Art Gallery is proving to be a big draw for visitors. Over 11,000 people have visited the Gallery since the exhibition opened on 12 June - more than double the number of visitors as the same time last year.
‘Edvard Munch: Prints’ has been extremely popular and features 40 of the Norwegian artist’s finest prints from throughout his career. The works have been specially chosen to illustrate Munch’s development as a graphic artist, as well as the important themes of his art.
Art lovers have flocked to the Gallery to see the major loan exhibition which includes the black and white lithograph of Munch’s most famous work - ‘The Scream’. Munch is considered to be Norway’s greatest artist and one of the founders of Expressionism.
Susan Ferguson, Head of Marketing and Development at The Hunterian said:
"A great many people have visited ‘Edvard Munch: Prints’ so far and hopefully we will have many more before the exhibition closes on 5 September. This is the last time that visitors will be able to see the lithograph of ‘The Scream’ before it returns to Norway permanently, so we would encourage people to take the chance while they can. The show is not to be missed!"
Reviews for the show have been very positive. Talitha Kotzé from The List magazine said: "It’s been a long time since I’ve had seen so many daytime visitors at a visual art exhibition in Glasgow."
The Hunterian is currently offering the chance to receive a limited edition Munch poster if visitors sign up for their quarterly email newsletter. The poster features Munch’s famous ‘Self Portrait’ of 1895. Visit www.hunterian.gla.ac.uk/munch/poster.php for further details.
‘Edvard Munch: Prints’ runs at the Hunterian Art Gallery until 5 September 2009.
