The winner of a University of Glasgow photographic competition received his prize from world famous photographer Harry Benson.
Student David O’Hare received some expert advice when he picked up first prize in a photographic competition held by the University of Glasgow.
During a presentation at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, world famous photographer Harry Benson handed over David’s prize - along with some invaluable words of encouragement.
The man who has photographed everyone from The Beatles to Amy Winehouse, along with every US president since Eisenhower, said: “I thought the quality of the work was of a very high standard and I was very pleased to have been involved.
“In the end, you can listen to advice but you have to go with your own heart.”
Post-graduate politics student David, who is studying China in the international arena, won the competition with a portfolio of five pictures. His shots, along with a range of other entered images, will be used in the University’s publications and website.
David, who picked up a £100 voucher for Jessops photographic shop, said meeting Harry Benson had been an absolute privilege. He said: “Wandering around his exhibition really put into perspective just how important and influential a photographer he is, and so for him to sit down and talk to me about my photos was so good it was almost a surreal experience.
“I will absolutely never forget it."
The competition attracted almost 500 entries. An exhibition of the winning images and a set of ‘Uni’que’ photographs will be on display at the University Visitor Centre from June 9.
