Two University of Glasgow students have recently been selected to represent their country in international sports tournaments.
Dentistry student June McNeill was selected for the Scottish netball team for the European Netball Championships. Business and Management student Johnnie Beattie will play for the Scottish rugby squad throughout the Six Nations tournament.
June, who also plays for the University of Glasgow’s Netball League, is the recipient of a University sports bursary aimed at supporting elite athletes to manage the demands of competing in sport at the highest level while undertaking a University degree. Captain of the Scotland under 21s, June will be playing in the position of Goal Defence this weekend.
Johnnie, who plays for the Glasgow Warriors, will be following in the footsteps of his father, former Scotland and British Lions hero, John Beattie. The 22 year old was selected to play for Frank Hadden’s Scotland squad after scoring his debut try against Romania in a 2006 Autumn test.
