The University of Glasgow has welcomed the latest Grant Letter from the Scottish Funding Council.

Total funding for the University of Glasgow has increased by 4.5 per cent to £159million.

The quality of our teaching is reflected in the fact that, once again, we have the largest funded teaching grant in Scotland, £107.7million - an increase of 3.8 per cent.

The University's research grant of £46.8million - an 8.4 per cent increase - reflects the world-class research being carried out and will allow us to build on and develop our first-rate research base.

A 54 per cent increase in the University's Widening Access and Retention funding reflects the achievements of Glasgow University in this area.

The grant for developing businesses from within the University - knowledge transfer - has increased by 23 per cent to £3.3million.

University of Glasgow Principal, Sir Muir Russell, said: 'The Scottish Funding Grant Letter reflects Glasgow University's place in Scottish higher education.

'Our exceptional teaching and research have been rewarded with above inflation increases, and our Widening Access and Retention award will allow us to strengthen our pioneering work and shows the confidence the Scottish Funding Council has in our activities.

'We will use the extra money in pursuit of excellence and we will continue to contribute to the economic, social and cultural wealth of Scotland.'
