Professor Mike Goran will present a research seminar on aetiology and prevention of type 2 diabetes in youth on 11 April 2006
Professor Mike Goran of the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, will be speaking at a research seminar in the Department of Human Nutrition on 11 April 2006 at 5.30pm. Professor Goran will speak on aetiology and the prevention of type 2 diabetes in youth.
Professor Goran is at the forefront of research on obesity and type 2 diabetes in childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. He leads a large and highly productive research group with substantial NIH and other funding. Their recent work has focused on two topics: physiological aspects of the development of type 2 diabetes in youth; developing and testing novel public health strategies for prevention of type 2 diabetes in youth.
Professor Goran has received many research honours and awards including: Clinical Nutrition Fellows Award (American Society of Clinical Nutrition, 1990); UK Nutrition Society Research Medal (1996); Kretchmer Memorial Award for Childhood Nutrition Research (American Society for Clinical Nutrition, 2000); Lily Award for Obesity Research (North American Association for the Study of Obesity, 2001).
This event will be held in the Gannochy Seminar Room, Medical Faculty (Wolfson) Building from 5.30 - 6.30pm. The event is free and open to the public.
