The sun shone and the crowds were out for the Walter Scott & Partners Limited Edinburgh Glasgow Universities Boat Races on Saturday 14 May at Glasgow Green. Each university took three victories on the afternoon with University of Glasgow taking the men's first eight and Edinburgh University winning the women's first eights. The ever popular graduate events, competed over a shorter course were both won by Edinburgh, with the men and women's second eights being taken by Glasgow.

The most discussed victory of the day went to Glasgow's second eight. The Glasgow crew were rowing towards a comfortable win but then stopped short of the line, mistaking the viewing platform for the finish. The Glasgow crew tried to re-start, but got beaten by Edinburgh. However at the presentation the Edinburgh captain gave the prize to Glasgow as the moral victors

The Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, Sir William Kerr Fraser introduced Jamie Mayer, former Scotland rugby international who presented the prizes and the Principal of Edinburgh University proposed the vote of thanks, rounding off a very enjoyable afternoon.
