University hosts first major media careers event in Glasgow
So you want to be a TV Presenter? Journalist? Scriptwriter? Web Producer? Radio DJ? Step this wayナ
Hundreds of media industry hopefuls are expected to descend on the University of Glasgow Hunter Halls on Wednesday 3 March, not for the next "pop idol" auditions, but for the first ever major media careers event the region has ever seen.
Scottish Media Careers Information Day is part of a national programme of events held across the UK this year. Hosted by Glasgow University Careers Service and sponsored by the BBC, SMG, Skillset, Scottish Screen and Channel 4, it's a not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone interested in a career in the media industry, be it as a journalist, TV producer, camera operator, VT editor, make-up artist or radio broadcaster.
Activities on offer include exhibition stands and presentations/workshops on a range of media industry related topics. As well as the sponsors, exhibitors will include radio stations, television production companies and training providers. There will also be hands-on activities and the chance to talk informally with representatives from TV and Radio.
The event is open to anyone interested in a career in the media industry and is especially aimed at those aged 16+, sixth-formers, students in further and higher education and job changers from across Scotland.
Jane Weir, Director of the University's Career Service, says, 'The Scottish Media Careers Information Day is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in a career in the media and to find out all they need to know about media and to meet people who are working in the industry".
The BBC's Head of Recruitment Communications, Roger Hammett, says, "No matter what aspect of the media industry you're interested in, you will find it here. It is the only event that will bring together as many and varied representatives of the media under one roof in this area this year. So there will be no better opportunity to get your career in the media off to a great head start.'
The Scottish Media Careers Information Day takes place in the Hunter Halls at the University of Glasgow on Wednesday 3 March 2004, 10.30am ヨ 4.30pm.
