The long carnival of death The Special Collections book of the month for March features a seventeenth century printed journal that chronicles the events of the siege of Ostend, one of the bloodiest events of the Eighty Years' War.

2004 is the four hundredth anniversary of the end of the siege that lasted an exhausting three years, two months and seventeen days. It is illustrated by uncompromising engravings that graphically illustrate the horrible reality of early modern warfare.

This rare book is a recent addition to Special Collections, having been generously donated by Anna E.C. Simoni, a former graduate of the University of Glasgow
