On 18th June several published graduates of the University of Glasgow's Creative Writing course will be holding a conference on creative writing and reading in Scotland. The event will be part of Glasgow's Festival of Creative Writing, which is the first of its kind.
The University's Creative Writing course has produced esteemed writers such as Anne Donovan, Louise Welsh, Zoe Strachan, Landon Napoleon, Rachel Seiffert, Laura Marney, Graeme Williamson, Freda Churches, Shug Hanlan, Nick Brooks, Will Napier and Colette Paul, and this event promises to maintain that reputation. Professor Willy Maley, the course convener said, 'It's good to see some of our postgraduates getting together in Glasgow and advertising Scottish Creative Writing in this way. The course has produced some acclaimed writers and looks set to continue to do so.'
There will be an assortment of talks, debates, panels and workshops by internationally known novelists, poets, film-makers and performers. Topics up for discussion range from crime writing to learning creative writing and how to be published. Guest speakers will include Suhayl Saadi, author of Psyhchoraag and Anne Donovan, whose novel Buddha Da is nominated for the Orange Prize for Fiction.
The Conference takes place at the Main Building, Glasgow University, from 9.30am- 6.00pm, followed by readings, music, food and drink at Uisge Beathe, Woodlands Road, Glasgow
