SHEFC (Scottish Higher Education Funding Council) has just announced that the University of Glasgow has been awarded £22.627M from the second round of the Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF).

Welcoming the funding announcement, Professor Peter Holmes, Vice Principal for Research said:

"This further allocation of SRIF funding of £22.627M to the University of Glasgow will provide a major investment to many of the key areas in our research base in physical sciences, engineering, life sciences and medicine."

Professor Robin Leake, Vice Principal for Estates, added, "The University of Glasgow is extremely pleased to have received such generous funding that will enable us to upgrade our infrastructure to continue to support the cutting edge research which happens here."

As part of the investment, there will be benefits across the University in terms of improved facilities for data management and extensive communication networks.

Another important development will be at the University's Field Station at Rowardennan on Loch Lomond which will include a state-of-the-art energy efficient and eco-friendly building appropriate to Scotland's first National Park
