Field trips suspended because of foot and mouth epidemic
Published: 2 March 2001
The University has suspended all field trips in the UK because of the risk of spreading infection during the foot and mouth alert.
After taking expert advice the University Secretary, Dugald Mackie, issued the following statment:
"In view of the unfortunate spread of foot and mouth disease into Scotland and Wales, it would seem appropriate for all student field trips to be suspended in the meantime. Although this decision will cause significant inconvenience to students and staff, I am sure that you will understand that the seriousness of the current situation warrants such a suspension.
"Obviously, if the situation changes materially for the better over the next few days, we can revisit this decision".
