What's That? - the new Medical School Building

The model of the new Medical School Building is on display at 'What's That Glasgow?' exhibition centre in Buchanan Street
The New Medical School for Glasgow University is on the move. The model of this pioneering flagship project, designed by Reiach and Hall Architects, can now be seen at its 'new' location.
"What's That Glasgow?" is delighted to be the new home for a 3 dimensional vision of the real thing. A timber, scaled model of the design proposal for the New Medical School will be on view to the public as a focal part of the "What's That Glasgow?" information centre and interactive exhibition space.
The New Medical School, now on site, is cutting edge. 16m long structural glass beams - believed to be the first ever use of glass engineering at this scale - support a sheer glass skin which sails over a triangular atrium at the heart of the school. Blonde stone and smooth white walls face out onto the city. Inside the medical and clinical teaching accommodation will provide unrivalled, purpose-built facilities with future scope to host digital, video seminar link-ups and interactive surgical conferencing.
New public spaces, designed by landscape architects Gross Max, link the city with the University. Walkways, gardens and views are enclosed within the courts and quads of the new Medical School. Medics' Corner, spreading around University Avenue, takes the university to meet the city - a new key landmark for Glasgow and central meeting place.
You can see it all at "What's That Glasgow?" 170 Buchanan Street, Glasgow - or wait until the New Medical School opens its doors in 2002.
If on the other hand you cannot wait that long - why not keep an eye on the construction operations and visit the live link-up webcam at http://wc1.cent.gla.ac.uk/view/view.shtml and search for the new medical school building.
