Apps and Education - doing the hokey cokey!
On the afternoon of the 17th November I found myself doing the hokey cokey with Julie Arbuthnott (UofG Transformation Team) to an audience of over a hundred IT professionals! (For those not familiar with this song/dance, here’s a clip.
What?? I hear you say! Well, we were presenting at a virtual UCISA event focused on university student apps and how to ensure they continue to add value beyond the first few weeks of term.
Membership of the UCISA organisation consists of IT professionals from Higher Education institutions in the UK. It’s a very supportive community who are dedicated to knowledge sharing across the sector and we were presenting alongside the University of Strathclyde and the University of Birmingham.
So, back to the hokey cokey! We used the analogy to explain the story of the development of the UofG Life app and the different approaches we’ve used to gather feedback and design services:
- Putting your whole self in a workshop
- Taking your whole self out and looking at the statistics around the use of the app
- Shake it all about a bit and digitally transforming services
- Turn around and ensure we capture the things we’ve done so that we can feed that back into what we do in the future, aiming to continuously improve…..now really, that’s what it’s all about!
